Working with Adults and Couples

Individual Counseling or Therapy

In Counseling, you may want to know more about symptoms or treatment for specific troubles such as depression or anxiety.  You may feel trapped or stuck and want a new point of view.  You may need to be reminded about your strengths or work out your options.

Therapy adds the level of watching for themes and patterns during our sessions and during your week.  We may add the analysis of your dreams or free associations to our work or spend time reviewing your family and life history.  If you understand that your struggles may be repeating themselves in your life and you want to know yourself in a new way, then you will find the process of psychotherapy fascinating and rewarding.

Couples Counseling

Human life is a paradox. In many ways our lives are quite private: our emotions and reactions, our physical pain, our dreams, our passions and fears.   And yet we are always connected to other people: our language, our humor, our sexuality and celebrations. These two truths influence the way I work with couples and relationship problems.

It is not easy to be married, to try to be honestly in love, to raise children into adulthood, or remain friends over a lifetime.  When I work with relationships, I respect the unique individuals in front of me, listen for the root causes of the current conflict, and encourage the bravery it takes to really be with another person.
